Don’t Be a Victim!!!

It is important to be aware a crime can occur anywhere and at any time.  Try to take action to reduce the chance of it happening to you.  Crime prevention is key to reducing the ability and opportunity for a criminal making you a victim. The use of instinct, knowledge, common sense, and awareness can help make you a tougher target.

Three Basic Rules
1) Stay alert.  IPods, radios, and cell phones are often distractions when walking the streets.  Criminals know this and target their victims accordingly.
2) Be aware of your surroundings, who is in front of you and who is behind you. Don’t get distracted.
3) Walk purposefully, stand tall, and make eye contact with people around you.

TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS!  If you feel uncomfortable in a situation, leave the area.

Personal Protection
- Make yourself a "tough target."
-Don’t think that it can’t happen to you.
- Should you resist? Everyone and every situation is different.
-If you feel that you are being followed, stalked, or in any danger call 9-1-1 BEFORE you become a victim
