Welcome to the official website for Boston Police District A-7. At this year’s State of the City address, Mayor Menino spoke about reducing crime in the city by at least 10%. Police Commissioner Davis has charged his commanders in the field to make good on this pledge. Beginning in January, the officers in District 7 redoubled their efforts to reduce crime in East Boston. While we will continue to aggressively arrest and prosecute offenders, a primary focus will concentrate on crime prevention. To do this, we need your help. After all, you are the eyes and ears of this community.
One easy example of reducing crime through “crime prevention” efforts is the crime of “larceny from a motor vehicle”. In the past year, thefts of personal property from cars have skyrocketed. This rise in thefts has been fueled by the rapidly growing market for portable GPS mapping systems. Thieves steal these because owners leave them in plain view when they park and lock their car. Even when owners hide the units, thieves will still break into a car because of the tell-tale sign from suctions cups on the windshield where the GPS was mounted. These GPS systems are easy to steal and even easier to sell. Most of these crimes can be prevented by simply removing the unit altogether or storing it in a locked trunk.
